Extra Income Report – October 2017 – Money made from my blog

I’ve recently decided to combine all of my income reports together, to make it easy to find all the info in one place.

Extra income report - October 2017

October was a bit better than September when I only made $1,870 in passive income from my blog. But, it’s still a bit short of my goal.  The 2nd half of the month was better than the 1st half, so I’m hoping Nov/December will be even stronger.

Extra income report for October 2017During October, I was also distracted by losing a part-time job, as the person I worked for decided to close his business.  So, I’ve been trying to figure out how to offset that short fall (and it’s been a bit distracting and time consuming).

At this point, I’ve made up some of that short fall, but it’s clear that I now need to generate my own leads each week and things will be challenging until the end of March.  I’ve started to blog about painting to help with that:

I’m chronicling my journey so I can show people what is possible and also to track my progress and drive myself towards better results. These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging. It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

Articles I wrote in October:

I moved/converted/redirected 6 coffee table articles I had written on another site.  This website wasn’t really getting any traffic, so I figured I had nothing to lose. And, I finally did a guest post, and planning to do many more for November/December.  I’ve had 1 published so far in November and would love to get at least 2 more published.

Traffic Report

October traffic was fairly strong resulting in a bit over 127,000 pageviews.  I’m hoping that some of the epic articles I wrote this month as well as the guest posting will help things accelerate faster.

The majority of my traffic is organic search (i.e. through google/yahoo/bing, etc). I have been working to grow and diversify my traffic and Pinterest is helping out with that. Here’s a helpful article on growing your traffic from Pinterest. I was a bit over 19,000 clicks for the month from Pinterest (vs 16,000 in September).

Oh, and if you have an interest in starting your own blog, check out my free tutorial here. (BTW, It costs way less than most people realize. You can get started for under $4/month).

Passive Income Results:

Affiliate sales $903

Amazon $759.41 (up a bit vs September.

Bluehost $ 65.00 (This is where you can get website hosting for just $3.95/month).  Do you want to start your own website?  Check out my blog host on how to create a website in 3 simple steps.

RewardStyle $72.66 (Home furnishings and more). This is a new program I just started. It’s for elite bloggers with established blogs that have a large amount of traffic. I’m hoping soon that this will become big, but just learning right now.

Shopstyle $4.80 (Home furnishings and more). This also is a new program I just started. It’s actually a pay per click program, so every time some clicks, I get .05. (If you want to help me out, feel free to click on it (just once). Right now it’s set to go to Target.com. I’ve been experimenting with this a bit on Pinterest for a few items I’ve been promoting.

EZBZ $1.00 (Customers can find local contractors here. Also, if you are a small business owner, you can sign up to be in the directory for free).

Ebooks/Ko-fi $ 8.14

Ad Revenue $1,095

Monumetric $1,067.45

Adsense $ 20.90 (these pages were converted to Monumetric at some point during the month)

Youtube $ 6.92

Total passive income = $2,006

So, it’s onward and upward. I’m hoping that the holiday season will be a good one. Typically ad rates go up, so hopefully, this will give me a nice boost.

Stay tuned for next month.

Extra Income Report – September 2017 – Money made from my blog

Extra income report September 2017

September was a bit of a setback as I only made $1,870 in passive income from my blog. This compares to $2,420 in August and my goal of $2,200.  The main shortfall is due to lower sales from Amazon (around $600).  It appears that August had an extra boost as it’s a bit of a DIY month for many moving into new houses.  September, on the other hand, is Back to School and also the Jewish holidays, so many of these types of projects are delayed until October.

Extra income report for September 2017In addition, September got off to a slower start than usual due to all the hurricanes and power outages.  Traffic was lower and that was the case for most blogs, as people had other priorities on their mind (i.e. safety).

Anyway, I’m now trying to rethink a few things to drive more traffic to my site.  This week, I actually published my 2018 Hardwood Flooring Trend post…2 1/2 months early.  This article is usually my #1 blog post for the year, so I’m hoping this helps.  I’m also starting to do some guest blogging and some blog posts about painting.  We’ll see if this does the trick.

I’m chronicling my journey so I can show people what is possible and also to track my progress and drive myself towards better results. These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging. It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

Extra Income Report – August 2017 – Money made from my blog

August 2017 extra income report - passive income

I’m so happy because I exceeded my goal for the month a hit a record high…over $2,400 for passive income from my blog.  My goal for August was to reach $2,100…and then to gain an incremental $100 each month through the end of year to hopefully reach $2,500 by December. It appears that I got a bit lucky this month with a few items that won’t repeat next month, but hopefully, I have a solid base of $2,100 to grow from.

These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging. It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

August was a successful month for me.  I’m starting to get the hang of affiliate marketing, especially on Amazon and writing some more articles that are converting better.  Some of my best converting articles included my article on best brands of polyurethane, my review of Coretec Plus and The best vacuum for hardwood floors.

I did have a bit of a snafu for a week due to plugin that I installed (and subsequently deactivated), so I had a week of slightly slower traffic and definitely lower ad revenue as it had an impact on some of the ads showing. It appears that the issue is solved now and I have my ad company keeping an eye on this as well as seeing if there are some ways to speed up my site.

Passive income report for July 2017

I’m so excited because I came so close to reaching $2,000 mark for passive income from my blog.  It’s my best month ever.  I really wish that I made an extra $4, but c’est la vie.  Several of the Amazon items ordered towards the end of the month didn’t ship until Aug 1st.  Oh well.  My goal for August is to reach $2,100…and then to gain an incremental $100 each month through the end of year to hopefully reach $2,500 by December.

Extra Income Report - Passive Income from my blog - June 2017

I’m so excited because this is my best month so far for passive income on my blog.  I’m I chronicling my journey both so I can show people what is possible and also to track my progress and drive myself towards better results. These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging. It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

My extra income report - June 2017 - Passive income from my blogJune was a strong month for me, and it’s showed me that growth is possible.  I felt for the last several months that things were just stagnating.  But, this month, traffic started to rebound and affiliate marketing started to accelerate, especially with Amazon.

Youtube $ 3.48

My highest prior passive income was $1,571 and that was in March, a slightly longer month.  Now, this month I had a few lucky/non repeating events, so I’d say my baseline is around $1,700-$1,750.  Still this is higher and it shows things are going in the right direction.  I’m hoping July will be even higher.

I’m in process of trying a few other ways to monetize my blog, and hopefully, they’ll be in place by end of July.  I can never quite seem to get to everything I want to (especially since I can only blog part time).

Extra Income Report - May 2017 - Passive IncomeMay was good, but not as strong as I was hoping. My traffic has declined a bit (down to 110,000 page views a month), so this will be a big focus for me in June.  I’m back to writing more content and doing some off page SEO.  I’ve also designed a whole bunch of new pins on Pinterest, so I’m crossing my fingers that my Pinterest traffic will rebound.

I’m also trying to strengthen the placement for one of my top articles:  2017 hardwood flooring trends.  It’s currently ranking #2 on Google, but I would love for it to be #1.  We’ll see if I can get there.

Extra Income Report – April 2017 – Money made from my blog

This is my 2nd passive income report on this blog as I chronicle my journey.  I’m sharing this article both to show people what is possible and also to track my progress.  These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging.  It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

April was a tad disappointing.  I made a bit less than I did in March.  One of the reasons was that the month was a day shorter, and the other reason is that I had my website theme redesigned, and in the process the ads were done for close to a day as well as a few other items.  In the long run, though, this theme upgrade will help me as it allows my site to run faster.  I still have a few items I need to iron out this month (as soon as I can find some time).

The other thing that happened in April is that my dad had to get double bypass surgery.  Thankfully, the surgery was a success and it sound like he may go home today.  I spent a lot of time visiting and that got me a bit further behind on my blog (and other items), so May will be a catch up month.  I didn’t write any new content in April (both due to distractions and web design), so hoping this month I’ll be able to do a bunch and start to accelerate the passive income once again.

Please note that this article may contain affiliate links.  You can read my full disclosure at the bottom of the page.

The only article I wrote during March was my March passive income report:

Traffic Report

April traffic is estimated at 118,700 (Google analytics wasn’t tracking for a bit over a day, so it’s a guestimate.  This is a bit more than March, even though April is a slightly shorter month.  I made some great headway on Pinterest traffic, but now Pinterest seems to be slowing down, so I have some work ahead for me.

The majority of my traffic is organic search (i.e. through google/yahoo/bing, etc).  I have been working to grow and diversify my traffic and Pinterest is helping out with that.  I will have more to report on this next month.  Here’s a link to my Pinterest profile if you want to follow my blog posts on there.

Total passive income = $1,509

I’m falling a bit further behind in my goals as my passive income hasn’t been growing much.  Hopefully, I can make some good headway on my projects (items I was planning to do in April) so that the trend will go upward..

Extra Income Report – March 2017 – Money made from my blog

Extra Income Report - March 2017This is my first passive income report on this blog.  I’m sharing this article both to show people what is possible and also to track my progress and journey.  These passive income reports show the extra money that I’ve earned through my hard efforts in blogging.  It’s my pathway to financial freedom in the future.

March was my best month so far.  Given the recent changes with Amazon (i.e. they basically gave us a pay cut by reducing the commission rates), I was expecting to be lower vs February.  But, thankfully my blog is like The Little Engine That Could and my passive income continued to grow.  (Of course, I wish it would grow faster, but at least it increased rather than decreased).

Please note that this article may contain affiliate links.  You can read my full disclosure at the bottom of the page.

Here are the new articles I wrote during the month of March:

Traffic Report

Unfortunately, my traffic declined during the month of March.  This appears to be partially due to a speed issue.  My site has been slow for years, but all of a sudden, it got painfully slow (appears to be from a plugin incompatibility issue combined with my theme).

Anyway, the page load time increased and I was getting all sorts of errors (including ones that said my website wasn’t available) and my bounce rate increased.  Not good.  I only ended up with a bit over 115,000 pageviews for the month.  (I had achieved 150,000 in January, so I wasn’t happy).

I decided to call some website experts.  Originally, it sounded like this would be a quick fix (perhaps taking 2-3 hours).  Unfortunately, this issue seems to be a deeper one, and I need a new theme (I’ve had issues with my theme for a while).

So, now they are working on fixing this…and it will solve several other issues simultaneously.  I can’t wait.  I’m hoping this will make the user experience better and ultimately help my traffic.

Traffic from Pinterest in April has already rapidly accelerated.

Oh, and if you have an interest in starting your own blog, check out my free tutorial here. (BTW, It costs way less than most people realize.  You can get started for under $4/month).

Passive Income Results:

Affiliate sales $617.74

Amazon   $579 (new record, and I got lucky as someone bought $1000 bathtub)

EZBZ        $    1.20 (Customers can find local contractors here.  Also, if you are a small business owner, you can sign up to be in the directory for free).

Tailwind   $  16.23 (this is my secret weapon to my success on Pinterest.  Love it!).  By the way, if you use my affiliate link here, you’ll get a free trial + later if you decide to do the paid version, you’ll get a $15 discount.  One of the smartest investments I made on my blog.

Wayfair.com  $  21.61

Ebooks/Ko-fi   $  16.96

Ad Revenue        $936.31

Monumetric $898.30

Adsense         $  32.65 (only on a few pages)

Youtube         $    5.24

Total passive income = $1,571

I was pleasantly surprised with these results.  In February, a shorter month, I earned $1,392, so I grew from there (a bit) even when accounting for the 3 extra days in March vs. February.  I was slightly short of the goal I set in December (my target was $1,625) and that’s not so bad considering the unexpected commission reduction in Amazon.

I need to try to accelerate things.  My goal for April is $2,000 and based on how April is going so far, I don’t think I’ll come close to those numbers.  I’m looking forward to the new theme on my site (and while this will help, it’s preventing me from posting to my blog, so I’ve lost a bit of time).  But, I’m hoping that the increase in speed will ultimately help my earnings (this may not show up until May) and I’m hoping to get back to some of my planned projects.  Hopefully, these will allow me to accelerate.

More info to come soon.
